3 Simple Reasons To Exercise This Wisconsin Winter

people-crossing-the-street-in-the-snow-winter-coldToday in Milwaukee it is a brisk 7 degrees outside right now – another below freezing winter day in Milwaukee.

Though it may be a bit below the average temperature this time of year, this cold is expected. Those of us living in Milwaukee know that in winter it will be cold – rather obvious.

With the cold weather many people go into hibernation mode. I mean, let’s be honest, it is a whole lot easier to just stay at home, stay warm, and not worry about staying fit . Lazy days are the norm for many people during Milwaukee winters.

With all the layers of clothing you are probably wearing, working out and staying fit are probably some of the last things on your mind. You don’t have to show off that summer body at the beach anytime soon, so why should you workout in winter? Why can’t you just wait till it is warmer out to workout?

Well, let me tell you 3 simple reasons why you should workout during this brutal Wisconsin winter.

  1. To give you a jump start on beach bod season. Yes, looking good at the beach isn’t the most important thing in the world (some may argue with me on this point) but let’s be honest, who wouldn’t want to gain some muscle or lose some fat before summertime? This one seems like a no-brainer, but what many people don’t realize is that getting results takes time. Since it is early March let’s say you have about 3 months to get ready for the beach – this is plenty of time to make some great improvements to your physique, if you get started now.
  2. To feel better every day. Exercise leads to your body releasing endorphins, which basically help you reduce stress, feel better, and elevate your mood. This endless Wisconsin winter can definitely get to you – exercise can help you cope with it.
  3. To establish exercise as a habit. Habits, good or bad, take time to form. If you exercise regularly a few months of the year but then don’t exercise at all the rest of the year you are making it very difficult on yourself to establish exercise as a habit. Sure, in winter you may not exercise outside as much, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t exercise at all. You can join a gym, hire a trainer to come to your house, or do workouts on your own at home.

There are plenty of reasons to exercise this winter, but the main point is that you do something. If you are a beginner and looking for something to get started with take a look at my 21 day beginner workout challenge.
